Creating robust software requires the use of efficient algorithms, but programmers seldom think about them until a problem occurs. This updated edition of Algorithms in a Nutshell describes a large number of existing algorithms for solving a variety of problems, and helps you select and implement the right algorithm for your needs—with just enough math to let you understand and analyze algorithm performance.

With its focus on application, rather than theory, this book provides efficient code solutions in several programming languages that you can easily adapt to a specific project. Each major algorithm is presented in the style of a design pattern that includes information to help you understand why and when the algorithm is appropriate.

With this book, you will:

  • Solve a particular coding problem or improve on the performance of an existing solution
  • Quickly locate algorithms that relate to the problems you want to solve, and determine why a particular algorithm is the right one to use
  • Get algorithmic solutions in C, C++, Java, and Ruby with implementation tips
  • Learn the expected performance of an algorithm, and the conditions it needs to perform at its best
  • Discover the impact that similar design decisions have on different algorithms
  • Learn advanced data structures to improve the efficiency of algorithms

International trade and International trade logistics happens to be one of the most talked about topics of the day. Like everything on earth this area of business has undergone mountains of changes over the last few decades. Starting from the barter economy and reaching today’s world of International trade is not only a very interesting phenomenon but is also of use to all people namely students, working professionals, businessmen or any other person directly or indirectly related to the world of International trade. The sole purpose of this work is to make the basic concepts on international trade understandable to each and every person related or wishes to be related to the world of international trade, as to how the trade is practiced in INDIA, its contractual methods, operational procedures, the obvious role of statutory bodies like customs, director general of foreign trade etc-----. Throughout this work I have taken all possible means to make the explanations as simple as possible so that any person who is even not related to this field of work can take reference of the same and I believe that this will at least enable him to understand the basics of the trade. Participation in International trade happens to be an indicator of a countries economic health. Starting from manufacturing of main stream and auxiliary as well as the service industry reflects the country’s performance in the global business hemisphere. International trade and its effects on a country’s economy does not restricts itself to the external economy but also affects the domestic economy by raising the standard of local enterprises to a competitive global platform . International trade of a country and its effects can be felt upon a long chain starting from the balance of payment situation of a country to raising the standard of local living and live hood as well. Keeping the fundamentals of “trade” constant the periphery of International trade crosses international borders. Unlike domestic trade which is limited to national boundaries international trade aims at reaching every corner of the world making the globe a common market platform. Owing to its very nature it is needless to say that International trade makes it necessary for all its participants to know and understand the fundamental principles, the nature of the trade, the operational and documentation procedures, specially the legal framework of the exporting and importing country as well. India has been a significant participant in International business amongst the developing nations over the last few decades. India’s emerging strengths and developments have led her to become a significant player in the arena of global business. The Government of India has also taken several steps over the years to boost up the country’s exports. Many liberalization schemes have also been undertaken from time to time over the last few decades. The core objective of this work is a purely normative approach to define international trade and to make all its readers understand the very basic meaning of the subject. At a glance we go through the process of exports and imports, the overall sketch of the documentation framework which is perhaps the most important of all understandings. Taking into consideration that the trade necessarily demands the presence of an authentic documentation system to ensure safety of transactions, we also proceed to understand the different types of contracts between contracting parties to the trade. Logistics playing a vital role in today’s world of international trade, the changing world of International trade, with the advent and implementation of changing transport systems have also been touched in the course of this work. Taking into consideration that understanding international trade would just remain incomplete without understanding the different transport systems and the co – relation of transportation to the documentation framework. Briefly touching the evolution of world trade we take a glance at how the trade is practiced across the globe, the inevitable role of statutory bodies like customs, trade councils and chamber of commerce in the process of practicing this trade. It is also evident and understood that the ever changing world of International trade provides a significant scope of self employment across the world and the same is true in India as well , be it in the form of exporters , importers , freight forwarders or custom brokers or consultants. With deep regards and sincere belief that this world of “ International Trade” is one of the finest forms of commercial business I express my sincere regards and humble tribute to the trade at large. This text takes an integrated approach toward communications, with little dichotomy between Analog and Digital. Studies of telecommunications in undergraduate Engineering education were traditionally analog. In fact, until the late 1960s, very few schools were teaching digital communication concepts to undergraduates. As digital communications rapidly replaced analog communications during the 1970s and 1980s, some universities attempted to keep up with the times by incorporating some digital communications into a first course in communications. Others proposed separate courses dealing with digital communications, often with analog communications as the prerequisite.

The teaching of Economics in business schools is constrained by two major factors. First, most Economists who take up teaching are trained in traditional Economics. They are unable to integrate economics with various functional areas of Management Science. Though Economics is naturally the most integrotive principle between various functional areas of Management, Management theorists have found Economics too abstract to be useful. At the same time, economists have always tried to run down the case study approach as one lacking in rigour and generality.

This book is an attempt to bridge this great divide. It deals with various features of Macro Economics including output, prices, interest rates, exchange rates, balance of payments and other related macroeconomic variables.

All these tools are then integrated together in the last chapter which helps the student, Managers and Executives to see the Economy as a whole. This perspective is important because it helps a manager to see the bigger picture of the Economy. It is the changes in Macroeconomy due to various Business Environment trends that define the landscape of any business. The study of macro economics thus becomes important for everyone wanting to understand business.

This book is practical in approach and is intended for students of business, Managers, Consultants and Executives. The concepts are presented in a manner that are easy to comprehend without diluting the theoretical rigour. Each chapter in the book stands out to be a tool in analyzing the macro economics. I hope my readers will find it useful, and not to say their feedback is welcome in order to further strengthen the book.

I wish to thank several individuals who made this book possible. Particularly, Dr. V. N. Patankar, Dr. Rajan Saxena and Dr. H.H. Mankad, my colleagues at NM1MS who over the last few years made me understand the business of Economics. I would also like to thank rny wife Sangeeta and son Shanmukh for their support in bringing out this book.

Finally my special thanks to Neesha Rebello and Jigna Patel for help in typing several drafts of the book before it took this final shape. Dr. Rakesh P. Singh

As one of the most widely used desktop applications ever created, Excel is familiar to just about everyone with a computer and a keyboard. Yet most of us don't know the full extent of what Excel can do, mostly because of its recent growth in power, versatility, and complexity. The truth is that there are many ways Excel can help make your job easier-beyond calculating sums and averages in a standard spreadsheet.

Analyzing Business Data with Excel
shows you how to solve real-world business problems by taking Excel's data analysis features to the max. Rather than focusing on individual Excel functions and features, the book keys directly on the needs of business users. Most of the chapters start with a business problem or question, and then show you how to create pointed spreadsheets that address common data analysis issues.

Aimed primarily at experienced Excel users, the book doesn't spend much time on the basics. After introducing some necessary general tools, it quickly moves into more specific problem areas, such as the following:

  • Statistics
  • Pivot tables
  • Workload forecasting
  • Modeling
  • Measuring quality
  • Monitoring complex systems
  • Queuing
  • Optimizing
  • Importing data

If you feel as though you're getting shortchanged by your overall application of Excel, Analyzing Business Data with Excel is just the antidote. It addresses the growing Excel data analysis market head on. Accountants, managers, analysts, engineers, and supervisors-one and all-will learn how to turn Excel functionality into actual solutions for the business problems that confront them.
